Fumie’s Story
Fumie von Dehn has always been surrounded by the kimono since she witnessed her mother collecting and transforming vintage kimono into wall hangings and other decorative artwork. It was only in her late 20’s and early 30s that she became more interested in the kimono and decided to turn that interest into a design career and started collecting kimono of her own. Together with the kimono her mother had acquired and the pieces she bought at auction sites (Fumie also has a licence to purchase kimono in Japan) she built up her collection to the point where she had a sizeable amount of 100% silk to work with. So from what started as a hobby has now turned into a career in fashion and she has since put on a variety of different events promoting her fashion and kimono collection including a number of displays she created for The Vancouver Opera. 2012 continues to be a busy year for Fumie as she works with a greater variety of silk and kimono and continues to add to her collection of haute couture pieces.
